Suit Up, Heroes

New Suits are always better than old suits.
No, Classic Suits are always better than new-fangled designs.
Hey, any suit is better than no suit!
Hey Come Back With My Suit!!

Costume Ideas

Evelyn has been working on costumes for the Comicon, so I have been trying to give her ideas.  I don't think she likes this one...oh well.
She is pretty excited about decking us all out in Steam Punk garb.
And she has been sewing up a storm.

GL in the Future

Green Lantern is one of the longest running comics in the world.
He should be an old man of 70+, but he looks pretty good.
There is a movie version coming out next summer.
But then every movie these days is either a British history piece or a comic book adaptation.
Still, will be depleting my Green Credit Battery to see this one.

Fading Flame

The news says that Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four dies today.
Super Heroes die all the time.  They usually come back.  Sometimes right away.  Sometimes years later.  Sometimes they are drastically changed by the weird dimensions they wandered during their "death".  Sometimes they are exactly the same as before they checked out.
The interesting thing about The Human Torch's death is this:
He has never died before.
Fantastic Four is one of the longest running series in comics.
All 3 of the other characters have died in the past (or at least seemed to have...).
But Johnny has never bit the big one before.

I hope he goes out in style.
Flame On, Johnny!
Flame On...

Comicon is coming to Seattle

Only 39 days until the Emerald City Comicon (ECCC).
Get your pants on Tony Stark!

See, even girls in comics like Vespa scooters. But they don't like drunk genius inventors in iron suits.

If the Rumors are true

If the rumors are true, Red Dwarf is getting back together.
And if that's true, you know what will happen...

The vindaloo curry on your TV set will explode!
(and you thought the exploding penguins were bad.)

Hurry it's a collectors edition.

Ouch!  SteamPunk Palin Comics?  It's a parody right?  Some kid with Photoshop, not a real comic book.
No, it's real.  More real than her chances of being president.  You can read more at Comics Alliance.  If you want to see ROBAMA, the Obama Robot and more Sarah Palin Steam Machine than I want to shake my stick at.  Somebody thought this was two great things that needed to go together?
Did I already say, Ouch!?

Taste the Rainbow

He is a jester, so he might be kidding.
But if you want gayer garments, now you know where to go.
And all you have to do is rob and rainbow, and wear wool.

Dog Bites Man, Is That News?

Every single Republican in the House just voted For Insurance Companies and against Americans.  Is that news?  Well it's not surprising.  But what is their plan to get their health care repeal through the Senate and past the President's veto?
Oh, the old "mysterious ray" plan, eh?  That might work...
But the Republicans promised us "repeal and replace".  So they must have a health care replacement plan, right?
Ah, the old "Don't look and maybe the sick people will go away" plan.  A classic!

Meanwhile, gaze into this mysterious ray.................
Just this once I wish the men would bite the dogs--that would be news.
But I'm sure my warnings would just sound as shrill and unnecessary as Bucky's.
"Hey America, Look Out!  They're going to---"  Nom, Nom, Nom...

Those of us about to code, We Salute You

The gauntlets have been thrown
Time and place have been set
The witnesses have sworn
Full confidentiality

With honor on the line
And balls within a vise
Fears pushed aside by sales' mantra
That it is, as they say, ”All good.”

Armed with what skills we have
Having vowed to do this thing
Deadline approaching fast
We step into the ring

Those of us about to code
We salute you

Here is to impossible tasks and impossible time lines!
Or as it is known in the corporate world, to Project Plans!
Also, Thanks to the Seahawks for one of the weirdest NFL seasons ever, and congratulations on being the best losing team ever: backing into the playoffs with a losing record and then trampling the defending Super Bowl Champs!  Good luck to the Bears who then trounced the Hawks.

Is that a rocket in your pocket?

Is that a rocket in your pocket,
Or are you just ready to go home?

It has been busy and productive trip to Chicago. But I am ready to go
home.
Hopefully the Seahawks will have a good meeting in Chicago as well.

Two, Two, Two Heads in One

Well if two heads are better than one. Then two computers must be
better than one.
Lost half a week of work dealing with a failing laptop, backing it up,
getting a new laptop and restoring all my apps and data.
Then lost half my weekend to catching up on work I should have finshed
during the week.
Just in time to pack my bags for a week in Chicago.

Oh well. The Seahawks backed into the playoffs with a losing record
and still beat the Super Bowl Champion Saints in one of the best
football games I have seen in years. So maybe I can back into Chicago
and pull out a victory as well.

Here's a Two Heads Doodle to satisfy your picture craving. Or to
illustrate the state of my ego in 2011.

What Could Have Been Entering the Public Domain on January 1, 2011?

Copyright law changed in 1978, ensuring that countless books, movies and other creations would take far longer to enter the public domain. The Center for the Study of the Public Domain offers a collection of classics that would have done so this year had the law not been passed.
Ultimately, extended copyright terms means that our culture is deprived of free access to these cultural items.  The original creators and their descendants have had lots of time to make money exclusively from these items.  Instead of 7 Samurai becoming as culturally available to us as Shakespeare, it is still locked up behind a corporate ownership system that limits our ability to access and reuse it.

Winter break was very nice.
Lots of time spent with my most favorite people in the whole world.
But now the calendar has flipped its page.
A new year has begun.
And it is, Hi Ho Hi Ho, back to work we go.
It looks like I will be very busy at work for the foreseeable future.
