Stumptown Comics Fest 2011 this Weekend

The Larsen Clan will be going to Portland this weekend for the Stumptown Comics Fest.
A show that prides itself on artist-centric and alternative comics.  You never see the big corporate comic publishers exhibiting at Stumptown.
Of course I will post some pictures and updates from the show.

Kirby Breaking News Mash

It's today's breaking news, mashed up with Jack Kirby comics panels:

First Up: Barry Bonds found guilty of obstruction of justice when he lied about not taking steroids.
Big surprise there.  Or should I say, Bonds got bigger and bigger, but we were not surprised that he lied.

Second: The President vows not to let Republicans take benefits from the poor to give tax breaks to the rich.
How's that working for you, Prez?  Remind me: what was your opening bid last week? 7 billion in cuts.  What was the Republican counter offer? 33 billion.  What did you end up with? 38 billion.  Keep on ducking, cause those are some superhuman negotiating skills you got there.

Last But Not Least: Jack Kirby drew great comics.  And that's all the news that fit to smash! (Well, not really, but it's all the news I have time to smash.)

Who Comes to America

CLICK THE COMIC TO READ IT:
It's true, Doctor Who is coming to America.  They filmed several episodes here.  And America is getting to view the episodes on the same day as British fans (a Doctor Who first).
And while the Doctor always fixes things in the end, it is true that things usually have to get pretty fouled up before he will show up in the first place.
I think America is ready...

I know I'm kind of an odd sort

Chani, aka POE, created a really great comic verse.
She said I could post it here, because I really love it.
"I know I'm kind of an odd sort,
But one day you'll see."
Way to go POE!

Market Forces and Corporate Power

Hey, there's something trickling down....
Maybe the free market is working...
Oh, that's just my own blood.
-------
I haven't been posting about politics lately.
It's not that I don't care--I do.
I've been trying to create things instead of just complaining.
But as our government seems almost certain to shut it's self down this week,
I thought I would just throw this out there:
It is the job of our congress to govern.  To make laws and write checks.
They seem more interested in their parties than they are in their jobs.
And while the congress is arguing about which social programs to cut and how much.
No one is putting the largest budget items on the table: War.
Why don't we reduce the Pentagon budget by 10%, raise taxes on billionaires by 3% and watch the budget problems go away?
Because congress works for big companies and billionaires.  Simple.
I'm amazed the press has such trouble with the analysis.  Oh, yeah---that's because the press is owned by billionaires and the big companies, who don't want Americans to look at the basic numbers.

Oh, and Mister President.  Last time I checked, you can't declare war.
The congress is supposed to do that as well.
I don't care which party you are with, you should at least follow the basic rules.
But you didn't.
Why?
Because you work for big companies and billionaires.
It's simple.

And that's why I haven't been posting about politics lately.
It's simple.

Now if somebody had some idea of how to reclaim our government from the billionaires and big corporations, I'd be interested in that.
