Not in my house you don’t

Sit down and act normal
Just for once
Can’t we be a happy family?

The camera doesn’t lie
But it adds pounds
Of fleshy misery

Strike up a conversation
Avoid the peeling paint
Or the pealing laughter

Pour a stiff drink
Load a paper plate
With a cargo of casserole

The young remember
The ankles and broken pelvises
Of their elders

Knock off that monkey business
You will ruin the carpets
Despite the plastic covers

Say cheese already
Family portraits have a way
Of haunting guilty and innocent

Alike
