Iron Man 3 is this Weekend...Power Up the Reactors!
Looking Forward to Iron Man 3 this weekend
I have not seen the new Iron Man 3 movie yet, but I have my tickets to see it on Friday.
I’m excited and hoping it is a good movie. Iron Man 1 was great, 2 was okay. I’m hoping this one is a at least good.
I’m excited and hoping it is a good movie. Iron Man 1 was great, 2 was okay. I’m hoping this one is a at least good.
Iron Man has always been one of my favorites ever since I was a kid of 7 and 8.
When I first started trading empty bottles for nickels and dimes and dimes for comic books, my favorites were Batman, Captain America and Iron Man.
When I first started trading empty bottles for nickels and dimes and dimes for comic books, my favorites were Batman, Captain America and Iron Man.
Batman in those days was a silly detective and the books would give you clues and you would try to solve the crime before Batman and Robin did. Batman was fun in those days, not the psychologically burdened Dark Knight that he became later. I liked Batman, everybody did. He had a TV show and was super famous.
Captain America was pretty well known as well. But Iron Man seemed to be somebody only I was reading about. None of my friends knew Iron Man. He had no TV show. In my circle of friends and family, I was the only one buying and reading stories about Tony Stark and his crazy technological inventions. Tony wasn’t a drunk or a psychological mess in those days either—he was a respected business man with a suit and tie with a secret identity and secret skills the people around him did not know about. As a young Mormon kid, that was how I felt. I had to be proper and wear a tie, but secretly I wanted to do things and learn things I wasn’t supposed to be doing and learning. I dreamed about building a secret lab with secret planes and rockets and robots and stuff. But mostly my secret life was filled with comics and books from the library full of stories I wasn’t supposed to be reading.
I also learned how to draw by copying the pictures in those comics. Then I would put my own dialog on the pictures. I’m still kind of doing that these days.
Later, as I got older, I started realizing that Iron Man’s armor was kind of a metaphor for all our technology. I learned that no matter how we wrap ourselves in metal cars and planes and extend our senses with TV and satellites, that we are still biological animals with limitations and issues that cannot be solved with technology, that we are still scared little monkeys no matter how cool our toys and how powerful our inventions. Tony Stark showed me a lot of that, and it has remained true even as I have learned a lot more than what could be slipped into a comic book.
Iron Man comics have been all over the map from horribly bad, to corny, to incredible (I’m looking at you Matt Fraction). But even at their worst, they are always enjoyable. I’m hoping this movie will be an addition to the “Incredible Iron Man” list. But even if it is corny, I will still enjoy it.
See you at the movies. And then let’s go save the world!

Coffee Hero of Canton Greeting Card

This Coffee Hero Card available in our LarsenGeekery Etsy Store and we will be bringing some to the show.
This year is also the 10th Anniversary of Firefly, the Joss Whedon TV Show that featured the irascible Jayne Cobb, the Hero of Canton and owner of the most famous hat in all of Geekdom, the Jayne Hat.
I hope the Browncoats like the design.
And although Jayne Cobb drinks his coffee with Xiongmao Niao, I don't recommend it. Only Mudders drink that stuff.

We attended the show last year and had a great time. Listened to great Geek Music and did some Christmas shopping for the geeks in our lives (and there are lots of them, let me tell you). This year we are excited to be showing our complete line of Geekery Art and Gear.
The Browncoats are a fan group based around the popular show and movie Firefly (and Serenity) by Joss Whedon.
Proceeds from this year’s event will support Urban Rest Stop, which provides shower and laundry facilities to those in need, and Food Lifeline, which feeds the hungry in western Washington.
So make plans to go to the show. And wear your Jayne Hat!

Bellingham ComiCon was a Blast!
Went to Bellingham ComiCon last Saturday and had a Blast!
For an artist, there is nothing like having people pay you to take home your art.
So as an artist, I would like to thank the people who took a liking to my doodles and took them home last Saturday.
I got asked to draw some commission sketches live at the show: Carlos wanted a Hal Jordan Green Lantern. So here he is, coming at ya!
Sold a bunch of my new Greeting Cards and some Posters.
And I also sold a bunch of my 5x7 mini watercolors.
Drew a couple of new ones during the show as well: Kite flying monsters and a Scarlet Witch that just turned Doctor Doom into a pumpkin for Halloween.
Oh, and I got interviewed for the local news as well. Go read the article at Komo News.
And Evelyn sold a lot of her bags and pouches as well.
Pretty exciting all the way around.
A well run show with a great bunch of vendors and artists, and lots of really great fans.
Thanks to everybody involved with the show.
I am already looking forward to next year.

And Sam had a really cool tattoo of Jack Kirby's Big Barda. So she asked me to make her a Big Barda she could frame and put on her wall. Drawing Kirby characters is always a blast. I love that old-school 4-color comic look.

22nd is an Awesome Little Day
September 22nd is just a great day.
It is the Autumnal Equinox when Day and Night live in perfect harmony and equality.
And its the birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, the most famous Hobbits in the world.
Don't worry, Tim, Hobbits are not terrifying at all. Unless you are a dragon, a troll, a Dark Lord of Mordor, or a...oh, Heck you're right! Those little guys are scary. Happy Birthday, Hobbits. We Love you tiny people!
Anyway, September 22nd is also the Jet City Comic Show in Seattle.
And LarsenGeekery will be there in Booth E27.
We will have comics, posters, cards, bags, pouches, buttons, shirts, all manner of Geekery for you to amuse yourself with.
And I'm pretty sure there will be no Volcano Demons at the Comic Show.

Jet City Comic Show is this Saturday
I have been busy getting ready for the Jet City Comic Show this Saturday, Sept 22nd in Seattle Washington.
Shane White did some great promo art for the show. But what I don't understand is why he put my initials, JL, on the lederhosen of his Nazi Golem monster???
LarsenGeekery will be at Jet City, Booth E27.
Evelyn will have a full set of 3-Dimensional Arts and Crafts: Bags, Totes, Hoodies, Shirts, etc. Including more variations of the popular Doctor Who TARDIS Bags and Pouches.
And I will have a full set of 2-Dimensional Art: Comic Books, Posters, Prints, and Greeting Cards.
This will be the debut of the new Coffee Hero cards and posters.
So if you will be in the Seattle area this Saturday, come by the show. It is only $8 at the door.
If you are not in the Seattle area, you can check out our online Store and still get in on all the Geekery Gear Action!!
See you at the show,

3 Cheers for LarsenGeekery
Huzzaahh!
GeekGirlCon 12 was a huge success. It was a lot of work, but everything went really well.
The crowd was one of the friendliest I have ever seen at a convention like this one.
The staff was great. The days were long, but we had a great time.
We are hoping to do it again next year.
Meanwhile, back at the Ranch: It has taken a few days to get caught back up in our "normal" lives and jobs. So, I haven't been posting much here.
There have been more posts over at LarsenGeekery.com and on our LarsenGeekery Facebook Page, but not much here.
But, I am slowly getting things caught back up and back to normal.
Just in time to start planning for another show....

Make Me 1 With the Countdown
Only 1 more day.
The mini countdown continues.
1 Day to go until GeekGirlCon '12. Holy Cow, that means the Show Starts Tomorrow!
And this 5x7 mini will be chilling in Booth 307, the LarsenGeekery Booth.
That always seemed a bit harsh to me.
There are better ways to deal with illusion...
Stop Freaking and Start Geeking!
Life is short. Make it wonderful.
Come and celebrate Geekiness with the Larsens at GeekGirlCon 12, Saturday and Sunday August 11th and 12th at the Seattle Conference Center downtown.
Get out of your comfort zone and come to the show.
You never know who you will meet.
